Byelaws

UNIFORM

1. Throughout the Society's existence the Captain's Uniform has been a scarlet coat, with green velvet collar, and gilt buttons bearing the Society's crest.

COURSE

2. The Rules of Golf as they may from time to time be approved by R&A Rules Limited shall, so far as applicable, be the Rules of the Society, except where otherwise specially provided for in these Bye-Laws.

3. The Handicaps of Members shall be in accordance with the Council of National Golf Unions Standard Scratch Score and Handicapping Scheme and shall be fixed by the Directors, whose decision shall be final.

4. Places in the starting sheet shall be booked only by a Member of each match in person who shall book one time only for each round. No Member may book a time for a second round until his first match has been completed.

5. Players on the 1st Tee have priority over those putting or playing to the 18th green.

6.On competition days no one may commence a round at any hole except with the permission of the Starter.

7. On competition days, players in all private matches must give way to Members playing in the competition.

8. In the event of any Visiting Party/Club being granted permission to hold a competition over the Course, Members waiting to play shall have the right to claim priority in starting over the competitors therein subject to the guidance of the  Starter.

9. Any match which is delaying the match behind, the hole in front being clear, must stand aside and request the match behind to play through.

10. Practice is allowed only on those parts of the Course set aside for that purpose.

11. Dogs shall not on any account be allowed on the Course or in the Clubhouse.

CLUBHOUSE

12. No Member shall take or permit to be taken from the Clubhouse any article belonging to the Society without authority of the Directors or the Secretary.

13. The Society shall not be responsible for articles of any kind whatever belonging to Members, Visitors or Guests even when left in the charge of the Staff. In the interests of tidiness and cleanliness articles of clothing or equipment left un-named and apparently ownerless in the changing or locker rooms will be collected, and if not claimed within 40 days be gifted to a Charity nominated by the Directors, and Members will have no claim upon the Society or any member of the staff in connection with such articles so gifted.

14. No notice or documents shall be placed on the Clubhouse notice boards or otherwise publicly displayed therein, except by the authority of the Directors or the Secretary or one of the Committees and no authorised notice shall be altered or defaced by any Member.

15. Members shall, before leaving the Clubhouse, defray whatever expenses they may have incurred therein to the Society.

16. No Member shall offer a gratuity to any member of the staff.

LICENSING

17. The Directors' objectives in regard to the supply and consumption of alcohol on the Club premises are as undernoted and, in that regard, Members are required to adopt and follow such objectives at all times while upon the Club premises:-

(a) To prevent crime and disorder:

(b) To secure public safety:

(c) To prevent public nuisance:

(d) To protect and improve public health:

(e) To protect children from harm.

18. Save when an occasional licence is in force, no person shall be supplied with alcohol on the Club premises unless that person is (i) a Member or (ii) a Guest who is on the premises at the invitation of a Member and is accompanied by that Member or (iii) a member of another club falling within the description prescribed in article 2.(1) of the Licensing (Clubs)(Scotland) Regulations 2007 (as amended from time to time).  In addition to any entry in the book kept by the Starter under Bye-Law 25, the introducing Member shall, upon admission of such Guest to the Club premises, enter his own name and the name and address of any such Guest in the book kept in the Clubhouse for the purpose and which entry shall show the date of each such visit.

Save as aforesaid and subject always to Bye-Laws 22 and 23, no Member shall be entitled to introduce to the Clubhouse more than 10 Guests on any one day.

For the purposes of Licensing Law only and for no other purpose whatever, all Guests and Visitors shall be deemed Members for the day.

No alcohol shall be sold or supplied to any person under 18 years of age.

19. Members shall not, and shall procure that their Guests do not, take or consume any alcohol supplied in the Clubhouse outwith the Clubhouse (including the balcony thereof) and the paved terrace and seating area in front of the building.

20. No Director or person employed in the premises of the Society shall have any personal interest in the sale of alcohol therein or on the profits arising from such sale.

No alcohol shall be sold or supplied for consumption outside the property of the Society.

VISITING CLUBS

21. The Directors have power to admit to the privileges of the Clubhouse and Course members of other recognised Golf Clubs for the purpose of playing golf on the Course. Each member of such Clubs who is not also a Member of the Society shall pay such subscription for the day as may be imposed from time to time by the Directors. There shall be posted on the notice board a list showing the names of all such Clubs or Associations to whom such privileges have been granted, and the dates on which they have been given permission to play.

PLAYING GUESTS

22. Each Town, Honorary, Country and 18/23 Member of the Society shall be entitled to introduce not more than 3 Guests to play on the Course on any one day except as authorised by the Directors. Each Five-Day Member shall be entitled to introduce the same number of Guests to play on the Course on any day at any time when Five-Day Members are entitled to play except as authorised by the Directors.

In respect of each Guest so introduced (other than the wife of a Member in respect of whom no charge shall be payable) the Member shall pay such charges as may from time to time be fixed by the Directors.

23. A Temporary Member shall be entitled to introduce not more than 4 Guests in any 4 weeks and not more than 3 Guests on any one day.

24. A Member and a Guest or Guests introduced by him shall play together. No Guest whether introduced by the same or another Member shall be allowed to play on the Course on more than 2 days in any period of 4 weeks save that there is no such limit on the number of times a Member may introduce his wife as a Guest.

25. A Member introducing a Playing Guest or Guests shall enter his own name and the name and address of each Guest in the book kept by the Starter for the purpose.

26. No Guest shall commence a round during the times set apart for the competitions of the Society.

27. Visitors and those playing by introduction must procure the necessary ticket before starting to play. The ticket must be produced on request to any official of the Society.

JUNIOR MEMBERS

28. Junior Members may only commence play with the permission of the Starter or the Secretary.

Times of commencing play for Junior Members shall be as follows:

(i) On any competition day at the end of the competition unless authorised to participate in the competition.

(ii) From Monday until Friday any time before 4.30 pm or after 6.30 pm unless accompanied by a Member.

(iii) On Saturdays and Sundays if accompanied by a Member between 9.45 am and 12 noon or, if unaccompanied, after 2.00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

During the months of November to March inclusive Junior Members shall be entitled to commence play between 10.30 am and 11.30 am or after 1.30 pm.

Junior Members may introduce one Guest to play on the Course at any time when Junior Members are entitled to play on payment of the charge normally payable by a Member for a Guest.

No Guest whether introduced by the same or another Junior Member shall be allowed to play on the Course more than on 2 days in any period of 4 weeks.

Junior Members and their Guests shall have the use of the TV and Visitors Lounges, Locker Room and, providing they are accompanied by an adult Member or an entitled adult relative, the Dining Room. All other rooms shall be barred to them except as sanctioned by the Directors. They shall not be served with alcohol.

Junior Members shall have unrestricted use of the practice grounds.

FAMILY TICKETS

29. Any Member of the Society may purchase guest tickets for the use of his family or for a friend accompanying a member of his family, under the following conditions:

(a) These tickets are only valid for Ladies and Youths under 18 years of age for weekday only play commencing before 4.00pm and may be used on any day except Saturdays and Sundays and any other day fixed by the Directors. They may also be used for play at any time at which Guests may play upon the Course in terms of Bye-Law Nos. 22 and 26 so long as the player eligible to play under this ticket is accompanied by the Member.

(b) Parties making use of these tickets shall, subject to Bye-Laws Nos. 18, 27 and 28 and this Bye-Law, be entitled to the privileges of the Course and Clubhouse (other than, unless expressly authorised, the Members' Lounge) as Guests for the day on such terms as the Directors may fix from time to time but subject to other Members, Visitors and Guests having precedence over them.

CADDIES

30. Under no pretext are Caddies permitted to enter the Clubhouse or loiter near the entrance thereto.

DRESS

31. Unless and then only to the extent varied, amplified or relaxed by the Directors from time to time:

(a) Members must adhere to the Society's accepted dress code of a jacket, collar and tie in the main entrance hall, Members' Lounge and Dining Room at all times..

(b) Members may use the other public parts of the Clubhouse (including the TV  and Visitors' Lounges and the open terrace area)  without wearing a jacket, collar and tie provided they are smartly dressed (e.g. no golf shoes, trainers, waterproofs or caps and shirts must be tucked in at the waistband).

(c) Members must be smartly dressed in recognised golf clothing while in the car park, the practice areas or on the Course in accordance with a Course Dress Code issued by the Directors from time to time and posted on the Clubhouse notice board (eg no trainers, sandals, jeans, vests or T shirts and shirts must be collared or round necked and must be tucked in at the waist).

(d) The wearing of shorts by adults on the Course or in the Clubhouse or in the car park is not permitted save that tailored shorts, when worn with long socks, is allowed but not in those areas where a jacket, collar and tie are required at the time.

32. Members must ensure that their Guests comply with the dress requirements imposed on the Members by virtue of Bye-Law 31 save that, in the case of ladies, they shall be required to dress to an equivalent standard to that required of the Members.

CLUBHOUSE CARD

33. All Town and Five-Day Members are issued with a swipe card ("Clubhouse Card") which may be used for purchases at the bar and in the Dining Room.

(a) Each year the Directors will fix the amount of the annual card contribution ("Card Charge") which will be due and payable by each such Member along with his subscription and, on payment being made, the Member's Clubhouse Card will be credited accordingly. Members may top up the credit on their Clubhouse cards in the bar or Dining Room by cash, cheque or debit (but not credit) card with a minimum payment of £20 (or such greater sum as the Directors may fix from time to time).

On request Honorary, Country, 18/23, Junior, Non Playing and Temporary Members shall be provided with a Clubhouse Card on the same basis as a Town Member save there shall be no annual Card Charge.

(b) Unused Card Charge payments at the end of December will be forfeited to the Society, but top up payments will be carried forward to the following year.

(c) There will be dual pricing in the bar and Dining Room. Payments made using the Clubhouse Card will be 10% less than payments made by cash or cheque.

A Member who loses his Clubhouse Card will be charged such sum as the Directors fix from time to time for a replacement.

COMPLAINTS

34. Complaints as regards service, or against any member of the staff, must not be made direct to any member of the staff but must be put in writing to the Secretary or Honorary Secretary in order that they may be submitted to the Directors.

35. The penalty for breaking any of the Bye-Laws of the Society shall be fixed by the Directors, whose decision shall be final.
